Referring clinician
When your patient has a radiological examination, a reporting clinician reviews the imaging and reports their findings via Cris. Results are typically made available, within the normal time frames, via PACS for hospital referrers and EDI or letter for external referrers.
However, if a reporting clinician makes a finding which requires prompt action, they can flag the report and Communicator will send the results to you via email immediately.
This is to ensure that radiology imaging results are promptly communicated and addressed, as recommended by the National Patient Safety Association (NPSA) Safe Practice Notice 16.

You should provide two email addresses - primary and secondary. An email will be sent to the secondary email address if Communicator does not receive acknowledgement of results sent to the primary email address within a specified time.
There are four categories of results, and you can decide which ones to receive via email. You may choose to only receive the last three. These are the “fail-safe alerts” as defined by the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) .
R | Routine | Results that do not require any of the action outlined below. |
C | Critical finding | Emergency action is required as soon as possible. |
U | Urgent finding | Medical evaluation is required within 24 hours. |
S | Significant unexpected finding | The findings are significant for the patient, are unexpected, and timely action is required. |
Tip:
Download our Referrer contact details (pdf) or Referrer contact details (docx) form which details all the information a referring clinician needs to give to the Cris administrator.

You will receive an email with information about the event, and the full report.
To acknowledge receipt, reply to the email. Please ensure that your reply contains the result acknowledgement key (the last line in the image above).
You can also receive a summary of results sent to you. This is an example of a weekly summary email:
Note:
You will still receive all results by the usual method. Email notification is an optional extra.
