System requirements - Dragon 15

These are the minimum requirements to use voice recognition. See also our Warranted Environment Specification (WES).

Hardware Requirement
Internet connection An internet connection to connect to the Nuance Management Center (NMC) Server for verifying the user license.
Sound card

Sound card capable of supporting 22 kHz 16-bit recording.
RAM 4 GB for all operating systems.
CPU 2.2 GHz Intel ® dual core or equivalent AMD processor. Faster processors yield faster performance.
DVD-ROM drive A DVD-ROM drive if installing from disk.
Supported operating systems

Windows 7, 8.1, and 10, 32-bit and 64-bit

Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, /R2, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019.
Audio device

An audio input device capable of 16-bit recording for dictation. For example, a Nuance-approved microphone (included, except for upgrades). Go to Nuance Dragon accessories for more information.

Software Requirement
Supported operating systems

Windows 7, 8.1, and 10, 32-bit and 64-bit

Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, /R2, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019.
Web browser Internet Explorer 11 or the current version of Chrome for online Help, installation if installing from the Web, and the Nuance Management Centre.
Other software

Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.5.2 or later. Generally, the .NET Framework is pre-installed on Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 computers. If you do not have it installed, you are prompted to install it during Dragon's installation. Nuance does not provide the .NET Framework with your installation; you must download the installation file from microsoft.com.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Runtime (full build only) If you do not have it installed, you are prompted to install it during Dragon's installation.

Philips SpeechMike

Device Control Software

If the Trust have opted to purchase or use existing Philips SpeechMikes as an alternative to the recommended voice recognition Headset, you should ensure that you do not install Philips SpeechMike Device Control Software.

Magentus have identified that Cris Dragon voice recognition will not function as expected if Philips SpeechMike Device Control Software is installed. This is particularly in relation to the behaviour of the record button. You should not install any software supplied via media with the Philips SpeechMike. The device should only be installed using USB plug and play when in use with the Cris > Dragon integration.  

Alternatively, if you (or IT) have already installed the Philips SpeechMike Device Control Software, you should uninstall this completely, otherwise Wellbeing Software cannot guarantee the correct operation of the Philips SpeechMike when used in conjunction with the Cris > Dragon integration.

Storage Requirement
Free hard disk space

4 GB if DVD installation, or

12 GB if downloading installation files.

User profiles

For each Master Roaming user profile:

  • 90 MB for each Roaming user profile
  • 21 MB for each additional vocabulary you add for the user profile
  • 70 MB for each additional dictation source you add for the user profile
  • 1 GB for Acoustic Optimizer data associated with each dictation source of each user profile

For each Local Roaming user profile:

  • 90 MB for each Roaming user profile
  • 21 MB for each additional vocabulary added for this user profile
  • 70 MB for each additional dictation source added for this user profile
  • 240 MB for Acoustic Optimizer data associated with each dictation source of each user profile

For each non-Roaming user profile:

  • 127 MB of hard disk space
